When people hear the word intuition, they often think of it as something mystical or reserved for the spiritually gifted. But the truth is, intuition is one of the most natural abilities you already have.

It’s not about predicting every twist of your future or escaping the unknown. It’s about learning to recognize the signals that are always trying to guide you—sometimes softly, sometimes with a jolt you can’t ignore.

Intuition shows up in different ways, and you might be surprised to realize you’ve been using it your whole life. You just didn’t have a name for it.

There are three primary forms of intuition:

The kind that keeps you safe, the kind that inspires your creativity, and the kind that offers a broader vision of your life.

I first heard these distinctions from Caroline Myss, who describes three levels of intuition: survival, creative, and visionary.

Survival Intuition

This is the most immediate form of intuition, the one that helped your ancestors survive and enables you to do the same.

It’s that gut feeling that tells you something is off when you walk into a room or meet someone whose energy doesn’t feel right. You don’t have to meditate or chant to access it. It’s always switched on, scanning your environment for signals you can’t see with your eyes alone.

Survival intuition often speaks through the body—a tightness in your stomach, a sudden urge to leave, a sense of relief you can’t explain. When you respect these signals, you’re protecting your self-worth.

But when you ignore them because you want to avoid conflict or please someone, you give away your power.

💡
Think about a time when you knew a situation wasn’t right but went along anyway. Later, you probably thought, I knew it. That’s not failure. That’s a reminder you can trust yourself next time.

Creative Intuition

Creative intuition feels different. It’s the spark that whispers, What if something new is waiting for you? It might show up as a fresh idea, a curiosity you can’t shake, or a wave of energy that makes you feel alive after a long stretch of feeling dull or stuck.

This is the part of you that senses when it’s time to grow, create, or reinvent. But here’s where most of us get stuck. We start negotiating with inspiration. We tell ourselves we’ll follow that nudge, but only if it doesn’t cost too much or disrupt our routines.

What we don’t realize is that these seemingly minor negotiations are actually significant decisions.

💡
Every time you say yes or no to a creative impulse, you’re shaping your life in ways you can’t see yet.

Every Thought Is a Decision

One of the most empowering truths about intuition is that every thought is a choice. And every choice is like a small prayer about what you believe you deserve.

When inspiration shows up, you get to decide whether you’ll respond with fear or with trust. Sometimes you won’t feel ready. Sometimes old wounds or doubts will try to take over. But even then, you can choose to listen instead of shutting down.

Visionary Intuition

This is the highest layer of intuition—the part that helps you sense the bigger story of your life. Some people believe you need special training to access it, but you don’t. You only need a willingness to pay attention.

Visionary intuition often feels like a quiet clarity that rises up when you least expect it. You might see a clear picture of where you’re meant to go, or feel an unshakable knowing that it’s time to release something you’ve outgrown.

But here’s the thing: if you keep dismissing your intuitive signals in small moments—if you ignore the survival gut feelings or the creative sparks—this deeper vision gets cloudy. You end up doubting yourself and seeking answers outside of yourself.

The Price You Pay

Over time, ignoring your intuition has a quiet price. You give away your choices. You stay smaller than you’re meant to be. You lose the simple clarity that comes when you trust yourself. That’s what it costs—not in theory, but in real moments, every single day.

The real practice is to respect the everyday nudges. To notice when your body tightens or your heart lifts. To stay curious about what those signals are trying to teach you.

💡
Because intuition isn’t about controlling life or predicting every outcome. It’s about staying connected to the deeper current that wants to move you toward what you were born to become.
